APD and Campbell Co. Emergency Management suggest early precautions for pending weather these next 36 hours or so.
Tomorrow (Wednesday) and tomorrow night is forecast to create issues related to issuing Travel Advisories and cancellations and delays for those of us making those decisions.
Based on current forecast and the NWS Briefing provided to Campbell County Emergency Management it shapes up much like this:
Change over from Rain to Snow will start at around 11:00 AM with temperatures in the 35 degree range. This is the time those who have to make decisions on closings and cancellations for the afternoon and evening need to start making serious decisions. If the forecast holds true, the evening will be a major problem for travel as snow fall is forecast to be heavy and temperatures are forecast to drop rapidly.
Around the 10:00 PM to 3:00 AM time frame the Heaviest Snow is forecast with temperatures dropping to well below freezing.
During the 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM period the forecast is for the heavy snow. This will require decisions on cancellations and delays on Thursday. Forecast for temperatures Thursday is in the teens so we do not except a quick recovery from snow fall and poor travel conditions on secondary roads.
Looking at the forecast I expect that our office may find itself going to a Level Two Advisory in the late afternoon or no later than the early evening. One issue we always consider when discussing the Travel Advisory Level is seeking to reduce traffic to allow our snow plows more ease in operation. If we see the snow fall expected to continue overnight then expect a Level Two at or before night fall at the latest.
