40-yr old Springfield man who dragged GCSO Deputy from car during a traffic stop & forced his way into apt in custody
40-year old man who fled from traffic stop, dragged a Deputy from the vehicle then forced his way into a Springfield north side apartment in custody, charges pending
On Monday, 03/03/15, at approximately 10:42 p.m., a Greene County Sheriff's Office Deputy with the DWI Enforcement Unit stopped a tan Chevrolet Malibu for an equipment violation in the 1100 block of W Norton. During the investigation, the driver exited the Malibu and walked towards the Deputy's vehicle; while the Deputy was speaking to the driver, a male passenger from the back seat of the Malibu relocated to the driver's seat. An assisting Deputy attempted to restrain the black male passenger who then put the car into drive, accelerated at a high speed and dragged the Deputy for a short distance; the Deputy was uninjured.
The passenger, who was later identified as a 40-year old Springfield resident, led GCSO Deputies on a brief pursuit through a nearby apartment complex parking lot before fleeing from the car on foot.
Deputies were contacted by a resident and located the suspect hiding inside an apartment; he was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect has been arrested and is in the Greene County Jail where charges will be submitted to the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
