Mail Theft and Mailbox Break-Ins
The Davis Police Department and the United States Postal Inspector Service are alerting Davis residents of an increase in community mailbox break-ins. Over the last couple of weeks, several community mailboxes have been vandalized or broken into, which may have led to mail theft. This issue is not isolated to Davis and is a regional issue.
It is recommended that you follow these guidelines to protect yourself from mail theft:
• Deposit outgoing mail in a blue mail collection box, at a Post Office, or hand it directly to your mail carrier.
• Never leave mail in your mailbox overnight. That is the most common time for thieves to attack.
• If you see a mail theft in progress, or suspicious activity around your mail box, call the Davis Police Dispatch at the number below.
• Establish a Neighborhood Liaison Program with the Police Department.
