BENTON, MISSOURI - Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reports two men arrested on drug charges.
Dennis L. Garrett (19) of 175 Matt Street, Sikeston has been charged with the Class B Felony of Possession of Controlled Substance with the Intent to Distribute, the Class C Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and the Class A Misdemeanor of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Brandon L. Goodwin (20) of 175 Matt Street, Sikeston has been charged with the Class B Felony of Possession of Controlled Substance with the Intent to Distribute, the Class C Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and the Class A Misdemeanor of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Sheriff Walter states that on Friday, March 6th, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Deputy Danny Finley and Senior Deputy Matthew Scroggins went to the Matt Street residence in reference to information received by Deputy Finley about illegal drug activity.
The deputies made contact with Garrett and explained why they were there. They received permission to enter the residence and conduct a search. Immediately on entering there was a strong odor recognized as burnt marijuana.
The subsequent search resulted in items being located that would indicate a marijuana distribution operation. The deputies discovered two digital scales, 219 grams of marijuana (.48281 pounds) contained in five plastic baggies, numerous additional clear plastic zip closure bags, blue glass pipe with residue, schedule 4 controlled substance Xanax, multiple packages of rolling papers, and a cigarette rolling machine with apparent marijuana flakes.
According to Sheriff Walter the approximate street value of the marijuana seized was $4,380.00.
Garrett was advised of his Miranda rights and admitted that he and Goodwin owned the items located. Garrett was arrested and transported to the Scott County Jail.
Goodwin was not at the residence, and at approximately 12:30 p.m., came to the Scott County Jail. Deputy Finley advised Goodwin of his Miranda Rights. Goodwin stated that all of the marijuana belonged to Garrett, and that the Xanax belonged to him, stating he bought Xanax, but not “weed.” Goodwin was incarcerated in the jail.
Sheriff Walter commends Deputy Finley and Senior Deputy Scroggins for their investigation and arrests. The Sheriff asks that anyone who has additional information on the activities of Garrett and Goodwin, other drug activity, or information regarding any other criminal activity to contact the Scott County Sheriff’s Office at 545-3525, or leave a message on the crime tip line at 1-866-210-4322.
Bond was set by the court at $1,000.00 cash only for each. Both immediately posted bond and were released to appear in Associate Circuit Court at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2015.
