26-yr old Springfield man charged after being caught burglarizing home in SW Greene County 
On 03/10/15 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Greene County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a home located in the 5400 block of S Stonegate Ave in southwest Greene County to investigate a burglary in progress. GCSO Deputies encountered a 26-year old white male, later identified as LUTHER P MERRIMAN JR, who was standing inside the home and was armed with a knife.
GCSO Deputies utilized GCSO K9 Lor to apprehend Merriman after he refused to comply with commands and retreated back into the home with the knife. Merriman briefly fought with GCSO K9 Lor before Deputies were able to handcuff him.
Merriman was arrested and received medical attention prior to being transported to the Greene County Jail. No one else was injured.
The Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has charged Merriman with:
1 - Felony count of 1st Degree Burglary
1 - Felony count of Resisting/Interfering with an Arrest
1 - Misdemeanor count of Assault on a Police Animal
