ODFD Community Advisory: DANGER -- SHELF ICE

Shelf Ice along Lake Michigan shoreline is very alluring, we often find people playing on its deadly surface.

There is no safe way to walk on Shelf Ice; it may be very thick in one spot and paper thin inches away; walking on Shelf Ice is extremely hazardous and unpredictable.

Persons falling through hidden holes and weak spots can quickly disappear from view making rescue difficult and dangerous. Death is likely; do not venture out onto Shelf Ice!!!
