DETECTIVES SEEK TO IDENTIFY SUSPECT IN AUTO THEFT SCAM

Detectives with the Portsmouth Police Department’s General Assignment Division are requesting the public’s help in identifying a suspect involved in stealing a car and selling it online. According to detectives on March 7, 2015, the victim and female suspect left a bar in Virginia Beach, to go to a house in Portsmouth. The female stopped in Norfolk and picked up two other males. After arriving at the home in the 100 block of Cushing Street, the victim invited the female and the two unknown males inside to hangout. A short time later the victim fell asleep. When the victim awoke he realized that his wallet, cellular phone, and car keys were missing. The victim also found his car missing and filed a police report.

On March 12, 2015 the victim’s vehicle was located in the City of Chesapeake. Detectives determined that the vehicle was sold through an online source called Peddle.com. Detectives have also learned that someone used the victims debit card in Norfolk on the same day that his wallet was stolen. Detectives have obtained a picture of the female suspect they are trying to identify.

Anyone with information about this case or who can identify the female pictured is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP ℠. Callers are never asked to give their name or required to testify in court. If a caller’s tip leads to an arrest, the recovery of drugs or stolen property they could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000.
