Carroll County-Today at approximately 6:17 a.m. on US 421 near CR 1100 north (that is about 2 miles south of Monticello), two vehicles hit head on sending both drivers to the hospital.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Tyler Stinson has revealed that a white 1998 Mercury SUV driven by Mylika M. Ross, 18 of Monticello, IN was northbound when she allegedly fell asleep and went left of center. A blue 2007 Ford pickup truck driven by Koty A. Laposi, 25 of Francesville, IN tried to avoid by swerving and slowing down, was unable to and the vehicles hit head on.
Laposi was life lined by helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis with leg injuries. Ross was transported by ambulance to IU Health White Memorial Hospital in Monticello then transported to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette with complaint of pain. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time which according to Trooper Stinson appeared to help lessen the severity of the injuries.
Assisting at the scene were the White County Sheriff’s Department, Monticello Fire and Rescue, Carroll County Sheriff’s Department and Mel’s Wrecker Service out of Monticello.
