IRS Scam Alert. I received this email from a citizen of Vinton Co and wanted to pass it along. I am going to copy and paste the actual email, since it will actually show what happened. Please remember that the IRS will not call you and demand money immediately. As everyone also knows, the IRS will NEVER negotiate the price! Fwd: On Friday, March 27th at approx. 5:20 p.m. an automated message was left on my home phone regarding a pending lawsuit from the IRS, and call needed to be retured right away. A number was given for me to call, which I called from my cell at work. When I called the number a foreign speaking male informed me that he was with the IRS, and that I had been under investigation, and found guilty of 3 counts of intentional IRS fraud. He informed me, I owed over $2,600.00 and that I needed to pay that amount right then. I informed him, I didn't have that amount of money at that time. He became angry, and informed me that the Sheriff's office would be notified, and papers would be filed at the courthouse, and that I would be called before a judge. He told me, it was in my best interest to take care of this immediately or it was out of their hands. When I told him, I couldn't pay that amount, it went down to $1,337.00. Again, I informed him, I did not have it, he told me I could then pay $1,000.00. He kept telling me, to try and contact family, maybe they could help. Finally, the amount went down to $ 500.00. He told me, he would call me back in 15 minutes to see if I had borrowed the money from someone. He never called back. Automated message left on my answering machine, was from Baton Rouge, LA. I called that number back, and it says it has been disconnected. I have not called back the other number, from which I spoke with the man demanding money.
