A state prison inmate has been placed on escape status after leaving his community service work site without authorization earlier today.
Inmate John Collins was last seen at the work site in Yankton at approximately 3 p.m. CDT.
Collins, age 30, is a white male with brown hair and blue eyes. He is six feet tall and weighs approximately 165 pounds.
Collins is currently serving a 10-year sentence for grand theft out of Lawrence County and a five-year sentence for forgery and a 10-year sentence for third-degree burglary out of Butte County.
There are approximately 800 minimum-security inmates housed across the state, including 260 at the Yankton Minimum Unit.
