Investigating motorcycle crash in which passenger died from injuries
The Arlington Police Department is investigating a motorcycle crash that involved the death today of a 33-year-old woman. Officers responded to a single vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of State Highway 360 approaching Interstate 20 at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Early in the investigation it appears that the suspect was attempting to change lanes when the driver struck a curb while attempting to exit, lost control of the 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle, and crashed. The driver and passenger were both thrown from the motorcycle. Neither was wearing a helmet. Both were driven by ambulance to Medical Center of Arlington for treatment.
The passenger, Brittany Lay (DOB 4/2/1981), remained hospitalized and died this morning from her injuries. The driver of the motorcycle, Joshua J. Thompson (DOB 6/4/1985) had minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital early Wednesday. Based on the seriousness of the victim’s injuries, Thompson was arrested and is facing a charge of Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle, a third degree felony. Bail was set at $5,000 and he was released on bail late Wednesday night. Due to Ms. Lay’s death, Thompson is expected to be charged with Intoxication Manslaughter.
