UPDATE......................... Polk Investigators Make Arrest in Death of Infant
An update in the death of a five-month-old infant that passed way on Monday has now been ruled a homicide.
Jeremiah Jackson was arrested today by Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives along with the SBI and charged with 2nd Degree Murder in the death of Cayden Gabriel Berryman.
On Monday emergency services responded to 23 Freedom Drive in the Mill Spring Community to an unresponsive infant. The infant was transported to St. Luke’s Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead.
The North Carolina Medical Examiners Office in Winston Salem conducted an autopsy of the child. The preliminary findings of the autopsy revealed the infant suffered some form of blunt force trauma to the head, which resulted in the child’s death.
Jeremiah Jackson, 31 of 23 Freedom Drive Mill Spring, NC has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder in the infant’s death. He is currently held in the Polk County Detention Facility under a $200,000 secured bond. He has a scheduled first appearance on Monday April 6.
Jackson does have a past criminal history. He has convictions of drug charges, probation violations, a past child abuse and currently has a Communicating Threat pending in court.
