On Thursday, April 9, 2015, the Claim Jumper Restaurant (18050 Brookhurst St.) will host “Tip-A-Cop” to benefit the Orange County Special Olympics. This event will begin at 5:00 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m. Members from the Fountain Valley Police Department will work alongside the service staff from the Claim Jumper to benefit the athletes of the Orange County Special Olympics. All tips received by police personnel will be donated to this organization. There will be a 50/50 raffle and opportunity to bid on auction items with the proceeds donated to Special Olympics. The Police Department will have on display Police Motorcycles, Police K-9s, the S.W.A.T. Bearcat vehicle, and an antique fire truck. There will also be a police K-9 demonstration in the parking lot. This is an event where the community can enjoy some great food, interact with some of Fountain Valley’s ‘Finest’, and support a great organization.
The Special Olympics World Summer Games opening ceremonies will take place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on July 25, 2015. The ceremonies will be officially started with the lighting of the “Flame of Hope” from the Special Olympics Torch. These games start on July 25, 2015, and will continue until August 2, 2015. More than 7,000 athletes from 177 countries are expected to participate.
