HIGH STREET CLOSURE FOR UTILITY RELOCATION DELAYED UNTIL NEXT WEEK
The Elizabeth River Tunnels (ERT) Project team, in partnership with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), has delayed the closure of High Street between Confederate and Constitution avenues in Portsmouth to relocate underground utilities. The delay is necessary in order for crews to complete drainage improvements on Turnpike Road, which is weather dependent.
The partial closure of High Street for utility relocation is scheduled to begin as early as Tuesday, April 14 and continue until early May. Due to the nature of construction, closure dates are subject to change.
Completion of the MLK Extension will create an efficient, connected transportation network, providing direct access between the Downtown and Midtown tunnels and High Street and London Boulevard in Portsmouth.
A schedule of construction-related closures and alternate routes can be found on DriveERT.com. Current lane closure information is available on VDOT’s weekly lane closure forecast. Visit www.va511.org, call 511 or listen to Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) 1680 AM or call the VDOT Traffic Information Line at 757-361-3016 for current traffic and travel information.
