Update – Rabid Coyote / Dog Attack – Vaccinations Expired
The Saddle River Board of Health has determined that the dog that was attacked by a coyote was not up to date with its rabies vaccinations. Due to this avoidable situation, the animal will be confined and quarantined for a period of six months (N.J.S.A. 26:4-83). The New Jersey State Department of Health and Human Services have been continually updated on this situation. Colin Campbell D.V.M. Senior Public Health Veterinarian has confirmed that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure the safety of the public.
Anyone who feels that they were in contact with this dog, immediately after he was attacked, should contact their health care provider for information and medical guidance.
Anyone with questions regarding this situation should call the Saddle River Health Officer, Angela Mussella at 201-445-7217 or Saddle River Animal Control at 201-652-4554.
