Impaired Driver and Street Racing Task Force over the weekend nets multiple arrests...

Los Angeles - April 18th – April 20th, California Highway Patrol Officers assembled and deployed an enforcement task force to counter impaired drivers, street racing and sideshow violations.

Saturday night’s Impaired Driver Task Force detail was comprised of 26 officers, whom are highly skilled in alcohol and drug influence detection. Their primary task is to seek out and arrest drivers who are under the influence. The officers focused their efforts in the downtown Los Angeles area where they were able to arrest multiple impaired drivers and prevent loss of life and property damage.

The detail was very effective and resulted in several arrests and citations:

• 29 DUI Arrests
• 9 Traffic Citations
• 138 Verbal Warnings
• 26 Impounded Vehicles
• 10 Disabled Motorists were assisted

Sunday night’s Joint Agency Enforcement included CHP, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and several local allied agencies. A proactive enforcement task force was launched to suppress street racing in Carson and the Southbay Area. Citizens have voiced their concerns about their neighborhoods being used as race tracks. Additionally, people have been hurt and killed as a result of sideshows and illegal street racing.

The detail was very effective and resulted in several arrests and citations:

• 47 Misdemeanor Arrests (suspended license, speed contest, exhibition of speed)
• 206 Citations
• 54 Impounded Vehicles

“If you participate in illegal street racing and sideshows, trust me when I say, you will not get away with it too long before the California Highway Patrol will find you and make it an unforgettable experience for you.” said Southern Division Chief Bill Dance, “We will not tolerate our streets being turned into race tracks. Streets are meant for people to travel through without being in fear of getting hit by reckless irresponsible drivers.”

The California Highway Patrol and its local partners will continue to utilize enforcement task forces to saturate Los Angeles County communities in an effort to make our streets and highways safe for everyone.
