CHP Officer saves two kidnapped children.
On April 21, 2015, the Sacramento Police Department notified the California Highway Patrol Emergency Notification and Tactical Alert Center, that two young girls, ages 6 and 9, did not return home from school. Their mother reported them missing and endangered.
Sanjuana Muñoz-Vazquez was named as the suspect, a 43-year-old, Hispanic female. She is the non-custodial mother of the victims, reportedly fleeing to Mexico with the children in a white 2003 Honda Civic.
On April 22, 2015, at approximately 7:35 p.m. Officer R. Valadez, from the CHP Santa Fe Springs station, was traveling southbound on the I-605 freeway, at Carson Street. His attention was drawn to a white Honda Civic, which matched the description of the suspected kidnapping vehicle. A license plate check revealed the car was in fact directly associated to the kidnapping of the two sisters.
Officer Valadez conducted an enforcement stop on the Honda and determined the two girls fit the description of the kidnapped victims. The driver identified herself as Sanjuana Muñoz-Vazquez and was taken into custody without incident. Ms. Vazquez admitted she was heading to Mexico with the girls without consent.
The sisters were transported to the CHP Santa Fe Springs station, where they were transferred into the care of Child Protective Services. Ms. Vazquez was booked at the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department, Century Station. She was charged with 207 P.C. (Felony) – Kidnapping.
