Three People Jailed After Traffic Stop On I-65 Yields Drugs In Vehicle
Seymour – Three people were jailed after drugs were found inside their vehicle during a traffic stop on I-65 in Seymour.
On Sunday morning April 26, 2015 around 9:00 AM, Indiana State Police Trooper Stephen Wheeles observed a silver 2013 Chevrolet traveling above the posted 70 mph limit south on I-65 within the 53 mm. Trooper Wheeles caught up to and stopped the Chevrolet and identified the occupants. While speaking with the driver, Shawnee Gentry 32, of Chicago, Illinois, Trooper Wheeles observed some criminal indicators of a presence of drugs in the vehicle. Trooper Stephen Wheeles and his Canine partner Kane conducted a sweep around the vehicle. Canine Kane alerted to the presence of illegal drugs inside the Chevrolet.
A subsequent search of the Chevrolet yielded 332 grams (12 ounces) of suspected Heroin with a street value of $40, 000 in the passenger compartment.
Gentry was arrested and transported to the Jackson County Jail where she was incarcerated and facing one count Dealing Heroin, a Level 2 Felony and one count of Possession of Heroin, a Level 3 Felony. The passengers in Gentry’s car were arrested as well. Shanon Straughter 33, of Chicago, Illinois and Steven Woolridge 37, of Richmond, Kentucky were each charged with one count of Dealing Heroin, a Level 2 Felony and Possession of Heroin, a Level 3 Felony. Straughter was also charged with one count of Identity Theft, a Level 6 Felony as well.
