Community Alert--Water Billing Scam
Community Alert--Water Billing Scam
The community should be aware of recent reports from other states where individuals impersonated water district personnel in order to gain entrance to customers’ homes to solicit what customers believed were payments for their water bills. Customers were deceived into thinking their water would be disconnected unless they paid the person at the door.
The County of Ventura Water and Sanitation Department would like you to be aware of the following facts:
1. Ventura County Waterworks District staff wear uniforms and/or carry identification from the County of Ventura.
2. Field staff drive utility trucks with the County of Ventura logo and a vehicle number displayed on the truck.
3. Field staff do not ask to enter customer homes.
4. Customers will receive prior notice to water shut-offs and such shut-offs are typically performed between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
5. While staff do sometimes accept payment from customers in the field, as a convenience to the customer, customers are not required to do so, and may choose to pay online or over the telephone using the contact information printed on their water bill.
6. Customers may also call the District office at 805-378-3000 to verify the identity of personnel in the field or to request additional payment options.
If you have any questions about this particular scam please contact the Water District Office at (805)378-3000.
