GCSO Deputies seize 100s of pieces of stolen mail, 46-yr old SGF man charged
46-year old Springfield man charged with Trafficking in Stolen Identities after Deputies recover hundreds of pieces of mail from vehicle
On Tuesday, 04/28/15, at approximately 11:48 a.m., an anonymous caller reported a suspicious vehicle in the area of 4600 E Bittersweet Way in eastern Greene County; the caller reported seeing the vehicle going from mailbox to mailbox and was possibly stealing mail. Greene County Sheriff's Deputies located a vehicle matching the description given by the caller and conducted a traffic stop in the area of 2600 S Blackman.
During the investigation, Deputies recovered several hundreds of pieces of mail from inside the vehicle including checkbooks, credit cards, applications for financial assistance as well as debit card information and other people's various personal information. The information was stolen from locations throughout Greene County and the state of Kansas.
The driver has been identified as Springfield resident 49-year old ERIC D VANCIL. The Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has charged him with:
1 - Felony count of Trafficking in Stolen Identities (case #1531-CR02275,
bond amount $500,000.00)
"Like with many of our cases, it started with an observant citizen calling 911 to report something that didn't look quite right in their own neighborhood," states Sheriff Jim Arnott. "The partnership we have with our citizens leads to reducing crime in our community and holding those responsible for committing those crimes accountable."
