Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reports an Essex, Missouri man arrested for Assault and Armed Criminal Action.

Robert L. Watkins (53) of 411 Cypress Street, Essex, Missouri has been charged with the Class C Felony of Assault in the Second Degree and Armed Criminal Action.

Sheriff Walter states that on Sunday, May 3, 2015 a deputy responded to a residence in Diehlstadt, Missouri for a disturbance in progress and the victim had been assaulted, by Watkins, with a baseball bat.

When the deputy arrived, he discovered Watkins had already left the scene. The victim stated that he was at the residence getting his belongings from the pump house. Watkins struck the victim with a baseball bat across his back area at this time. The victim had a large red mark across his back.

Watkins was later located by Miner Police Department on Matthews Lane in Miner, Missouri. Watkins was arrested and transported to the Scott County Jail by the Sheriff’s Office. Watkins was booked in the jail pending the filing of formal chargers by the Scott County Prosecuting Attorney.

Watkins remains in custody at the Scott County Jail. Bond was set by the court at $15,000.00 cash or surety and cannot have any contact with the victim.
