The Montecito Fire Protection District is attending a multi-agency Wildland Fire Drill near the Carpinteria-Summerland / Montecito border
MONTECITO, CA – MAY 6, 2015 – The Montecito Fire Protection District is attending a multi-agency Wildland Fire Drill near the Carpinteria-Summerland / Montecito border on Saturday, May 9, 2015.
Approximately 200 firefighters from agencies within Santa Barbara, Ventura, San Luis Obispo Counties and the US Forest Service are participating in this training event. Training of this nature is invaluable to the crews involved, to go over skills and tactics they will be using during fire season, and familiarizes out of the county mutual aid resources to the terrain, history and challenges they will face when responding to a wildfire in the southern portion of Santa Barbara County.
This drill is a simulation, and there will be no live fire used at any point during this training.
Residents may see a steady stream of fire engines and support personnel in the Montecito, Summerland, Ladera Lane and Hidden Valley areas from 8:00 AM through 4:00 PM. Planners of this event have arranged for fire equipment and crew movement throughout the drill to impact the communities as little as possible.
For additional information regarding the drill, including event sites and a map of the proposed fire resource traffic flow, please refer to the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire District website: http://www.carpfire.com/.
