Nature of Incident:
“Click It Or Ticket”
Report Number:
N/A
Location:
City of Moorpark
Date & Time:
May 18, 2015-June 1, 2015
Unit(s) Responsible:
Moorpark Police Department, Traffic Unit
Narrative:

The Moorpark Police Department along with the State of California Office of Traffic Safety, would like to remind the public of the “Click It Or Ticket” seatbelt campaign taking place throughout California from May 18, 2015 to June 1, 2015. The campaign is aimed at keeping motorists safe by using seatbelts and proper child seat restraints while operating vehicles on our busy roadways and highways. As a reminder, “proper for drivers” means using the lap/shoulder belt as it has been designed to be used, across the shoulder and not under the arm.

It only takes two seconds to buckle-up a seatbelt and that two seconds can literally save your life in the event of a traffic collision. The minimum seatbelt cost of an adult seatbelt violation in California is $161, and a minimum $445 for not properly restraining a child under 16.

The Moorpark Police Department has a zero tolerance for motorists not wearing seatbelts and for those drivers who fail to properly secure children in vehicles. The Moorpark Police Department will be stepping up enforcement of seatbelt violations during the “Click It Or Ticket” time period.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics for 2013 showed nearly half of the 21,132 passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes for that year were unrestrained. Statistics for California alone during 2013 showed that 500 unrestrained occupants died in car crashes.

So please remind yourself next time you load up the family for a road trip, a drive across town, or just driving to or from school or work to buckle-up. Please do so safely every time you get in the car, obey traffic laws, and respect other motorists. Don’t risk your life, or the lives of your family or friends. Please buckle up.
