Unusual incidents involving a suspicious male attempting to approach children in the Lakeview area.

The Malverne Police Department would like all residents to be aware of the following message sent out by the Nassau County Police Department. Although there have been no reports of this type in the Village, due to the close proximity we feel that the residents should be aware and share the safety tips with their children.

The Nassau County Police Department is advising the public of five Unusual Incidents of children being approached by an unknown male black suspect driving a black colored van. The children have all been female and ranged from 8-16 years old. In two incidents, the subject attempted to entice the children with the offer of candy. In three of the incidents, the children were walking to/from school.

The suspect is described as a male black, 20-30 years of age, driving a black vehicle possible van or SUV with possibly a dent on the right rear door and possibly tinted windows.

Residents are encouraged to call 911 immediately should they observe suspicious activity as described above.

The Nassau County Police Department would like to offer the following suggestions:
If a stranger stops their car and asks the child questions, run the opposite direction and tell authorities.
Always walk in groups and stay close to the curb, away from shrubbery and doorways.
Do not take shortcuts through alleys, vacant lots or parks.
