EVERSOURCE SCAM: Caller claims power will be shut off if amount not paid immediately, very believable, pass the word
A local resident came in today to report an attempted scam involving a caller claiming to be from Eversource Energy. The caller stated that the resident owed over $1,000 in back electricity payments and that a crew was headed to the house to shut off power. The only way to stop the power from being shut off was to got to a local store and purchase Reload It cards (pre-paid cash cards).
The caller gave a customer service number to call when the cards were obtained. When the number is called, it sounds legitimate. This resident knew his account was paid up, so called a published number for Eversource to verify the scam. This scam is very believable, so if similar calls are received, contact your utility company through a public number to verify the claims.
Thank You
