GCSO searching for Parole Absconder 
On Monday (05/11/15) at approximately 5:30 p.m., 27-year old DERECK R OWENS purposely deceived Correctional staff by assuming the identity of another inmate with the same last name, resulting in him being released from the Greene County Jail. Owens was being detained for a parole violation warrant issued from the State Probation and Parole Office.
As soon as this came to the attention of GCSO staff, investigators immediately started searching for Owens. We are conducting the criminal investigation and search for inmate Owens. "The Professional Standards Division is reviewing the incident to determine what procedure allowed this to occur and look for preventative measures to ensure this does not happen again in the future," states Sheriff Jim Arnott.
Owens is described as a white male, 5 ft 9in, 170 lbs, brown hair and blue eyes.
"If you come into contact with Owens or have information regarding his whereabouts, do not attempt to apprehend him, contact local law enforcement immediately," advises Sheriff Arnott. Citizens with information can either contact the GCSO Tip Line at 417-826-6230 or 911.
