Advisory

Amgen Tour of California will affect traffic this Saturday

The Amgen Tour of California bike race arrives in Mt Baldy this Saturday. Please be aware that there will be road closures and delays off and on throughout the day. Some of the closures that we have been made aware of that might affect residents/visitors are as follows.

On Friday, late afternoon to early evening, the uphill lanes of Mt Baldy Road at Manker Campground will be closed. The downhill lanes will be converted to two-way traffic. The uphill lanes at Manker will be closed all of Saturday and will be used for the L'ETAPE amateur ride finishing area. They should open back up Saturday evening sometime.

Early Saturday morning, probably sometime between 6-7am, Mt Baldy Road will be closed between the Trout Pools and the Ski Lifts. This closure is to safely move all of the television trucks up the switchbacks. We don't anticipate this closure will last more than about 30 minutes once they start moving up the hill.

At 7:00am on Saturday morning the L'ETAPE amateur ride begins at the Fairplex. There are two rides, a 40 mile and 80 mile ride, both finishing at Manker (or the Ski Lifts, not sure). There will be approximately 700 riders. There will be no road closures for this ride, it's rules of the road. Riders will finish between 10:30am and 2:30pm. There will be LOTS of bicyclist on the road, please use caution.

At around 11:45am the Tour of California will start from the Ontario Convention Center. There will be rolling road closures the entire race. They will turn onto Mt Baldy Road from Shinn road at approximately 12:14pm-12:24pm. At this point Mt Baldy Road will be closed from Shinn all the way to Glendora Ridge Road. The riders will turn onto Glendora Ridge Road approximately 12:25pm-12:38pm. Once all riders have cleared Mt Baldy Road onto Glendora Ridge Road, Mt Baldy Road will be opened back up. We are looking at approximately a 30 minute closure.

Sometime between 2:38pm-3:31pm the riders will return to the canyon and turn onto Mt Baldy Road from Glendora Ridge Road. Mt Baldy Road will be closed from Glendora Ridge Road to the Ski Lifts until the riders finish. The estimated finish time is between 2:50pm and 3:47pm.

It is estimated that the road will re-open at around 4:00pm for downhill traffic at the Ski Lifts.

CHP will close the road again between the Ski Lifts and Trout Pools in the early evening to allow the television trucks to exit the switchbacks. We don't have an exact time on this.
