On Monday (05/11/15), 27-year old Dereck Owens purposely deceived Greene County Sheriff's Office Corrections staff by assuming the identity of another inmate with the same last name, resulting in him being released from the Greene County Jail. A search for inmate Owens was launched immediately and his apprehension became high priority.

Sheriff Jim Arnott announces "Shortly after 9:00 a.m. this morning, Inmate Owens was located at a home in the 4300 block of W Maple St in west Springfield. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our GCSO Deputies and the assistance of the Springfield Police Department, we were able to apprehend him without incident." Several GCSO Detectives were assigned to search for inmate Owens who worked around-the-clock since Monday evening.
