Davis Police Response to Gun On Campus Telephone Call is Found to be a Prank
On 5/15/2015, at approximately 1315 hours, the Davis Police Department received a 911 transfer call from the California Highway Patrol. After the call transfer was made, a male caller reported to the Davis Police Dispatcher that a white male wearing all black clothing and holding a gun was standing in front of Emerson Junior High School, which is located in West Davis. The distraught sounding caller then terminated the call before further details could be given. The school was immediately put on lockdown. Officers and Deputies from the Davis Police Department, the UC Davis Police Department, and the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the school. Police conducted a thorough search of the campus and confirmed the school was safe.
As the search was being concluded, on-scene officers determined the initial call was a prank. Two juveniles are believed to have jointly made the call, which was a false report of an emergency. They were taken into custody without incident. Charges are pending and because they are juveniles, their names will not be released. After declaring the school safe, parents were allowed to pick up students.
