School Road is now open, hydrant water shut off, power being restored.
School Road is now open. The flow of water from the broken fire hydrant has been shut down. P.G.&E. is at the scene and is working on restoring power to the neighborhood.
The incident began when a driver driving a rental truck accidentally backed over a fire hydrant causing the fire hydrant to shear off shooting water 50' in the air. The water was hitting high power lines directly above causing the water to become electrically charged.
Firefighters immediately secured the scene to prevent harm to anyone in the area of the accident and then requested a response from the North Marin Water District and P.G.&E.. Firefighters and Water District responders had to wait for P.G.&E. to shut off the power before they could safely shut off the flow of water.
Some residences may be without power for a while longer.
