Board of Water Supply (BWS) crews have resumed repair work on the Kalia Road water main. BWS repair work had been temporarily suspended earlier today when the BWS accidentally damaged a gas line. The BWS was able to resume its work once Hawaii Gas Company safely secured the damaged gas line.
After uncovering more of the 12-inch main, the BWS discovered that a hydrant valve was broken, and not the 12-inch main as was initially thought. BWS crews are now working to replace the broken valve and restore normal levels of water service as quickly as possible to Hale Koa Hotel and the Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies who are receiving water through water bypasses, but at lower-than-normal pressures.
Once the BWS completes its repairs to the main, then Hawaii Gas Company will resume their repair work.
Meanwhile, Kalia Road remains completely closed to traffic between Paoa Pl. and Saratoga Rd. The BWS urges motorists to avoid the area if possible and to use an alternate route.
