NEWS RELEASE: Arrest made in attempted child abduction case
On Wednesday, May 20, 2015, the Campbell Police Department arrested Roberto Felipe-Velasco, a 25 year old transient, in connection with the attempted child abduction that occurred this previous Saturday (May 16, 2015).
At approximately 1:15 PM yesterday afternoon, a Campbell Police Officer located a 1998 silver Honda Accord 4-door in the parking lot of Extra Space Storage, 241 W. Sunnyoaks Avenue. The Honda matched the description of the suspect vehicle and investigators found Mr. Velasco seated in the driver’s seat.
Mr. Velasco closely resembled the suspect description given by the victim on the day of the incident. Investigators wrote a search warrant for Mr. Velasco’s storage unit and seized numerous items of evidence including clothing that was consistent with what was worn the day of the incident.
Mr. Velasco has been booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for kidnapping, false imprisonment, and child endangerment. He is currently being held without bail.
While we believe that this was an isolated event, we are encouraging anyone with information regarding this incident and/or Mr. Velasco to contact the Campbell Police Department to assist in the on-going investigation.
This case has been the top priority for the Campbell Police Department since Saturday. We, along with the victim’s family, are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support from both the community and the media. On behalf of the family, we are requesting that the victim’s privacy and space be respected.
