Flood Update

Wichita Falls, Texas- City Emergency Management Team members have directed ONCOR Electric Delivery representatives to shut electric service off to a designated section of the lower Tanglewood Neighborhood at approximately 2:00 pm today.

Based on current flood predictions the power will be shut off within the lower Tanglewood Neighborhood between Turtle Creek Road and Brazos Street and north of Tanglewood Drive. This also includes the Brandywine Addition. The current outage area could expand if additional rainfall and flooding should occur.

At this time electric service will not be shut off to the East Side of the city, around Scotland Park or near the MPEC. This too could change with increased rainfall. Power will be shut off to Lucy Park and the hotel located near the Falls.

-The Red Cross will now use the Hirschi High School Gym, 3106 Borton, as a shelter to assist those affected by the flooding.

-Antioch Baptist Church, 601 Bonner, located on the East Side of Wichita Falls is also preparing their facility to operate as a shelter.

-City Fire and Police personnel will go door-to-door again today in the Tanglewood Neighborhood and portions of the East Side of the City telling residents that they must evacuate

-The Point of Distribution Center will be opening today (Thursday) in the old Brookshire’s grocery store building, on the corner of Loop 11 and Seymour Highway. Those affected by the flood can receive assistance from various agencies, essential items, immunizations and refreshments. Residents with pets and no place to keep them can contact Animal Services at 940-447-0343 for assistance.

-When the flood waters arrive residents are urged NOT to enter the water on foot, by vehicle or any other method. Flood waters are unpredictable, dangerous and pose a significant health hazard.
