Injured German Shepherd Rescued
On May 3, 2015 at 1 p.m., an Animal Control Officer from Corona Animal Services & Enforcement responded to a call regarding an injured dog. Upon arrival, a young German Shepherd dog was found with a severely injured rear leg. With no owner in sight, Corona Animal Services impounded the dog and due to the extent of the injury transported it to the Yorba Regional Animal Hospital in Anaheim for emergency treatment.
The dog was treated at the hospital overnight, and was then released back to Corona Animal Services who transported the dog to a local veterinarian, Dr. Ivan Yevseyenko at the Corona Community Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Yevseyenko examined and treated the dog. Much of the dog’s skin on the inner right rear leg had been torn off of the underlying muscle. Dr. Yevseyenko reattached the remaining skin and prescribed antibiotics and pain medication. However, a large unclosed wound still remained, requiring daily wound care and medication by Corona Animal Services staff.
While the dog was being held as a stray for possible owner-redemption, Animal Services staff worked tirelessly to find a rescue group that would be willing and able to treat the dog’s significant wound. On May 7, 2015, the Southern California German Shepherd Rescue in San Diego, adopted and agreed to continue care for the dog. The dog, which has now been named Jesse, is currently being treated by Dr. Rob Tugend in San Diego and is expected to have a full recovery as well as a new home very soon.
Corona Animal Services & Enforcement did an outstanding job of providing care and dedicating resources which ultimately led to the best possible outcome for Jesse.
The Southern California German Shepherd Rescue has posted a video on YouTube of Jesse’s journey through surgery. You can find it by searching Help Save Jesse’s Life.
