City Emergency Personnel Respond to Fall off Cliff Adjacent to Dock Point

Valdez, AK - City of Valdez emergency personnel responded Friday evening to a report of a person who fell approximately 70 feet off a cliff adjacent to Dock Point trail.
At 6:36 pm Friday, Valdez Police Dispatch received a medical assistance request for a 17 year old female who sustained life threatening injuries after falling approximately 70 feet off a cliff into Port Valdez. The young woman's friends rescued her from the water, but were unable to move her from the shoreline due to the extent of her injuries.
Valdez Fire and Police Department personnel, as well as skiffs from the City's Small Boat Harbor and Fire Department, responded to the scene. City emergency medical services personnel treated the young woman onsite and transported her to Providence Valdez Medical Center. She was transported via medevac to Providence Hospital in Anchorage for additional medical care late Friday evening.
The cause of the incident is currently under investigation. Next of kin have been notified. High tide in Port Valdez occurred at 5:46 pm on Friday.
