Driver Walks Away with Minor Injuries
Tippecanoe County-Yesterday at approximately 4:00 p.m. SB on Old SR 25 near CR 650 north (that is approximately three miles north of the I-65 entrance ramp), a driver allegedly fell asleep and crashed into a row of trees and walked away with cuts and bruises.
Initial investigation by Trooper Dexter Whitten has revealed that a red 1991 Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by Jeremy F. Holmes-Bear, 17 of Lafayette was driving SB when he allegedly fell asleep and drove off the right side of the roadway and hit several trees before coming to rest. The truck was completely destroyed with the bed separating from the truck and coming to rest about 25 yards from the crash site. Holmes-Bear was seat belted in the truck and was able to crawl out of the truck when he thought he smelled the odor of gasoline and feared the truck might catch on fire.
The driver was transported to IU Health Arnett Hospital with what appears to be only minor injuries. The truck was towed by JR Towing out of Lafayette. Assisting at the scene was the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department.
Suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
