On Monday, May 25, 2015, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a one-vehicle traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Carlin Avenue, Lynwood, which resulted in the death of two passengers. The driver and one other passenger were transported to a local hospital where they are being treated for their injuries.

Witnesses at the site of the collision told responding Century Station deputies that the vehicle was travelling southbound on Atlantic Avenue when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle went into a spin and struck a tree on the west sidewalk of Atlantic Avenue.  The vehicle then jumped over the sidewalk curb, slid across a parking lot and came to rest against a building adjacent to the lot. Traffic investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are conducting an in-depth investigation of the incident.

The Sheriff’s Department wants people to remember that celebrating national Holidays is not only an important American tradition, but also requires extra responsibility. Designated drivers and taxi services are best used when alcohol is going to be consumed. All law enforcement agencies in the county are fielding extra personnel to ensure safe roads this holiday weekend. Drivers are also encouraged to call 9-1-1 if they see suspected drunk drivers.
