PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF

May 18, 2015 – May 24, 2015

 

Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations

and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Domestic NA:  A report of assault occurred in a hotel room.  An individual was being coerced into staying against their will.  An Officer responded, separated the individuals for the night.  No arrest was made.

Public Speaking/Appearance:  An Officer assisted with a Bike rodeo for the preschool.

Harassment:  A former employee from Kenai was threatening an individual.  An Officer advised the individual if they want the employee trespassed from the Kenai Office they will have to contact the Troopers.

MVA-D:   An Officer was flagged down by an individual that wanted to report a motor vehicle accident with damage.  A note was left on the victim’s car to contact VPD, when the owner could not be located.

Found Property:  A cell phone was found in the street by an Officer.  He tried to make contact with the residents but no one was home.  Galaxy Samsung phone was turned into the police department.  To claim please call the Valdez Police Department with description of phone.

Civil Problem/Dispute:  A woman called to report her ex girlfriend was threatening to throw away her belongings if she did not come get them from an RV that they both used to share.  An Officer recommended she go over with a friend to get her belongings and have it videotaped.  She was also advised that she could go get a writ of assistance from the court.  No further assistance from an Officer was needed.

Stop FI:  An individual flagged down an Officer while on patrol to report an elderly lady was wandering around and looked lost.  The Officer attempted to locate the woman but was unable to find anyone matching the description.

Disturbance Other:  A caller reports he let a girl in his house who used to live there with his sister.  She is making him feel very uncomfortable and won’t leave the residence.  Before police could respond he called back to say she had left and picked up her belongings.

Oil Spill:  Harbor Master reported a significant diesel spill starting at C dock and going towards the harbor.  He requested VPD to contact DEC.  DEC and the Coast Guard responded to clean up the spill.

Burglary:  Several businesses reported the possibility that someone broke into their business and had gone thru the offices and accessed computers. Nothing was reported missing.  These cases are currently under investigation.

Criminal Mischief:  A report of someone trying to break into a truck was received.  The ignition was damaged and the owner could not put the key in it to start.  Unable to see anyone on his surveillance camera.  An Officer responded to investigate and found it to be an interlock issue.

Trespassing:  A local business reported a 6’ male inquiring to his employees about drugs.  Contacted 2-3 housekeepers and requested an officer to escort him off the property.  An Officer responded to speak with the Owner of the business and during that time the individual left the premises.  The individual will be served a No Trespassing.

Animal At Large:  A report of a medium size dog, white with orange, running loose in Simmons Trailer Park.  An Officer responded but was unable to locate the dog matching this description.

Burglary:  A person called to report approximately 30 Tylenol 3 with codeine was taken from her mother’s home on Sunday sometime between 1300-1600. This case is currently under investigation.

Traffic Complaint:  A report of a tan Jeep driving by going approximately 70 MPH, heading toward Peter Pan Seafood’s was received.  An Officer responded to the area but only found a Silver Jeep which he made contact with.  No other Jeeps in the area.

Disturbance Noise:   A report of a large explosion was heard.  An Officer spoke to the person in charge of blasting and they will notify dispatch next time before they begin blasting.

Theft:  A caller reported that his phone was stolen.  An Officer located the subject who reportedly stole the phone but he did not have it in his possession.

Child Custody Disputes:  A person called to speak with an officer about child custody issues she was having with her Ex.

Traffic Complaint:  A report of a speeding vehicle was received.  An Officer investigated the complaint.

Citizen Contact:  An Officer was flagged down while on patrol.  The person was asking for directions.

Threat:  A caller requested to speak with an officer about a threat he received from another person.  This case is currently under investigation.

Hazardous Materials Spill:  A Harris Sand & Gravel sweeper blew a hydraulic line on the roadway.   It was under control and no response was necessary, just an informational call.  Mechanic was called to fix the problem.

Harassment:  A person called to report she was being harassed by a man.  He claims she owes him money.  She has asked him several times to stop and he won’t.  This case is currently under investigation.

911 Hang Ups:   Received a 911 call.  Upon investigation found out it was a payphone at the museum.  An Officer responded to the area, questioned workers in the area but no one saw anyone in the area make the call.

Localized Flood Watch:  Public Works Department and Valdez Police Department have been making routine checks in the 10 mile, 8.5 mile and the Alpine Woods Subdivision dike area.  They are monitoring the water levels, and general conditions in these areas.

Domestic Non Arrest:  A person called to report her mother was kneed in the stomach after a verbal argument with her boyfriend.  An Officer responded to investigate.  The parties were split up for the night, no arrest was made.  Alcohol was involved.

Civil Problem/Dispute:  A caller reported having issues with a person who had done some work for them.  This case is currently under investigation.

Barking Dog:  A caller reported a dog had been barking for 3 hours.  An Officer responded and contacted the owner’s sister to take care of the dog.

Citizen Contact:  An Officer made contact with an individual outside of the Valdez Police Department who was writing profanity on the back of a vehicle.  The individual was told to stop.

Serve Time:   Huddy, Bridget Damaris, DOB 10/09/65, of Valdez checked into the Valdez Jail to serve time for DUI conviction.

Possible Drunk Driver:  A third party reported that a parent picking up his child from Daycare seemed drunk.  The vehicle was headed out of town.   An Officer responded but did not see a vehicle fitting the description given.

Traffic Complaint:  A caller reported that they were run off the road at the Salmon turn around by a big turquoise truck with graphics on the side.  The Semi was passing a loader inbound and she was driving outbound.

Disturbance Other:  A report of a former employee creating a disturbance on Saturday night, Wednesday evening and Thursday night was received.  This case is currently under investigation.

Theft of Property:  A local business called to report that two individuals switched the price tags on merchandise.   This case is currently under investigation.

Animal At Large:   A black and brown brindle colored dog was reported at large.  The Animal Control Officer contacted the owner of the dog and issued a verbal warning.

Trespassing:  A local RV Park called to report a person harassing people and refusing to leave.  They requested assistance to evict the person from the premises.  An Officer spoke to the individual and gave him a half hour to vacate the property.

Animal at Large:  A caller reported 2 black labs running in the park strip.  An Officer responded and found the owner of one of the dogs and issued a verbal warning.  The other dog wondered off.

Assist EMS Crew:  Officer’s responded to assists EMS crew for a patient.

ETOH Pedestrian:  An Officer assisted a man with a ride back to his residence.

Public Speaking/Appearance:  15 Middle School kids toured the Animal Shelter.

Abandoned Vehicle:  A report of an abandoned vehicle was received.  The registered owner was contacted and they stated the vehicle was not abandoned. 

Trespassing:  A caller requested that a person be trespassed from their property.  An Officer informed the individual not to trespass on the property.

Assist EMS Crew:  Officers responded and assisted the EMS Crew at Dock Point for an individual that had fallen off the cliff into the water.

Barking Dog: A caller reported a dog tied up behind a garage had been barking for over an hour.   An Officer responded to the area and did not see a dog tied up or hear any barking.

Disturbance Noise:  A report of a loud party on a white pleasure boat docked at A dock was received.  It was reported to have been going on for some time and they were 4 wheeling up and down the dock.   An Officer responded but the party had broken up, about 5 guys were seen leaving the area.

Curfew Violation:  While on Patrol an Officer observed a young man on a bike.  He was issued a warning for curfew violation.

Threat:  A Caller reported a man opened the door on his trailer and threatened to kill him.  They were fighting over the ownership of a dog.   He then tore out of the trailer park.  An Officer contacted both individuals and neither wanted to press charges.

Fraud Credit Card:  An individual from Peru came to the Police Department to report fraud on his credit card.  This case is currently under investigation.

Domestic Non Arrest:  A caller requested help with his son who was out of control.   Officers responded to find a yelling match, the subject left the area.  Caller spouse did not want the assistance of the Police. No arrest was made.

Trespassing:  A caller requested that an individual be trespassed from her property.    An Officer contacted the caller and went to the residence but the subject had left the area.

Possible Drunk Driver:  A report of a driver crossing the fog line multiple times was received.  An Officer responded and the driver was negative for alcohol.

Disturbance Noise:  A local business reported the guests complaining about noise coming from an open back door.  The door was closed and will remain locked for the rest of the night.

Underage Drinking Report:  A report of an underage drinking party was received.  Officers responded to Mineral Creek Trailhead and found 3 individuals, all were sober.  No one else was seen in the area.

Citizen Contact:  An Officer stopped to talk with 3 people at the end of the trailer court.  Everything was fine it was just a group of adults smoking cigarettes.

Animal At Large:  A report of a Husky running around in the Alyeska Pipeline Parking lot was received.  Caller called back to report the dog left the area.

ETOH Pedestrian:  A caller reported a female stepped into traffic at the corner of Meals and Egan.  Not sure if she’s drunk, but he almost hit her.  She was walking down Egan Street.  An Officer made contact with the individual who was not drunk and was not happy about being questioned.

Animal Impound:  Animal Control Officer responded to two individuals arguing over a dog.  One individual claimed the dog bit him and would not come with him. Neither party wants the dog so the Animal Control Officer treated it as an abandoned dog and impounded it.

Fish & Game:  A report of two individuals shooting at arctic terns on the mineral creek trail was received.  A maroon & tan/gold or silver two tone truck on the west dike side of the mineral creek was firing guns, or air guns or possible fireworks at the arctic tern/seagull rookery and disrupting, possibly killing the birds.  An Officer responded to the area found one vehicle but no one was firing anything at that time. 

Disturbance Other:  A report of kids shooting a BB gun at crows was received.  An Officer made contact with an individual who agreed to cease and desist the shooting of crows.  He claimed they were dive bombing him and that’s why he was shooting them.

Assist EMS Crew:  Officer’s assisted the EMS Crew for an elderly man who was found on the floor.

Civil Problem/Dispute:  An individual called to report that a person was threatening to sell his vacuum.  An Officer investigated the situation.
