Details: The Town of Poughkeepsie Traffic Enforcement Unit reports investigating a three-car personal injury auto accident involving a Wappingers Central School District school bus that occurred at approximately 7:50am on May 27, 2015. The crash occurred at the intersection of Spackenkill Road (State Route 113) and Cedar Valley Road. A 2013 Chrysler Town & Country, operated by a 41 year old Rosendale, NY female, was stopped in an easterly direction on Spackenkill Road waiting for westbound traffic on Spackenkill Road to clear so she could make a left turn onto Cedar Valley Road. The school bus, operated by a 48 year old Wappingers Falls, NY female, was traveling westbound on Spackenkill Road. A 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier sedan, operated by a 21 year old female from Poughkeepsie, NY, was traveling eastbound on Spackenkill Road approaching the stopped Chrysler Town & Country minivan. A Preliminary investigation reveals that the Chevrolet Cavalier collided with the rear of the stopped Chrysler Town & Country and then continued to go over the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic and collided with the school bus. The school bus then lost control and overturned landing on its driver side.

The school bus was occupied by the driver and nine students. All of the occupants of the school bus were transported by ambulance to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. The operator of the Chevrolet Cavalier was the sole occupant of the vehicle and sustained non-life threatening injuries and was also transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital by ambulance. The Chrysler Town & Country was occupied by the driver and four passengers. None of the occupants in the Chrysler Town & Country sustained any injuries. The road was closed for several hours while police investigated the scene. The Town of Poughkeepsie Police were assisted by the Arlington Fire District and Trans Care Ambulance.
