35-yr old man charged after stealing van, flees from GCSO Deputies & forces way into home
35-year old man steals a vehicle in southwestern Greene County, leads Greene County Sheriff's Deputies in pursuit through Springfield then forces his way into a home faces multiple charges
On Tuesday (05/26/15) evening at approximately 6:26 p.m., Greene County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area of 3600 block W Roxbury after the owner of a white Ford Econoline van called 911 to report his van stolen. The caller advised he was following the vehicle and was able to provide Deputies with updated locations. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop with the vehicle but the driver refused to stop. During the pursuit, the suspect drove towards a Springfield Police Officer's vehicle, missing the vehicle. No Deputies or Officers were injured during the incident.
The driver lost control of the vehicle in the area of S Kansas Ave and W Grand where he struck a parked vehicle and fled on foot. The suspect forced his way into a home in the 900 block of S Nettleton and was arrested.
"Thanks to the hard work and perseverance of our Deputies, along with the assistance of the van's owner, we were able to arrest someone who not only put his life at risk but those of our citizens," states Sheriff Jim Arnott.
The Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has charged 35-year old Ozark resident FILIBERTO J PEREZ with:
1 - Felony count of 1st Degree Tampering with a Motor Vehicle
1 - Felony count of 1st Degree Burglary
1 - Felony count of 2nd Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer
