Driver Fails to See Train Coming
Tippecanoe County-Today at approximately 2:25 p.m. on CR 1200 south about one mile west of US 231 (that is south and west of Romney, IN), a semi driver fails to see a train and has his trailer ripped in half.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Kyle Wentland has revealed that a blue 2007 International pulling a 2013 grain trailer and driven by Gary H. Deboy, 73 of Romney, was WB on CR 1200 south when he approached the tracks and failed to see a SB CSX train coming. The International was able to clear the train but the empty trailer was split in half with the rear of it coming to rest about 75 feet down the east side of the tracks and the front coming to rest about 200 feet down the west side. Deboy was not injured and no one on the train was injured.
Deboy was cited for failure to use due regard when crossing railroad tracks. Assisting at the scene were Troopers Nelson Davis and Nate Hampton along with J & T Recovery Service.
Pictures of the trailer and train are attached.
