SUBJECT OF RELEASE: Fatal motorcycle crash
DATE AND TIME: Sunday, May 31, 2015 at approximately 3:04 P.M.
LOCATION: The intersection of East Howard City-Edmore (M-46) and North Crystal Roads, Richland Township.

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a car/motorcycle crash on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at approximately 3:04 P.M. The crash occurred at the intersection of East Howard City-Edmore Road and North Crystal Road and resulted in the death of the motorcycle driver.

The investigation revealed that Gerald Teegardin, a 76 year old from Vestaburg, was operating a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle and was travelling north bound on Crystal Road. Teegardin stopped at the stop sign then continued onto Howard City-Edmore Road and into the path of a westbound 2010 Chevrolet Traverse operated by Brenda Shaw a 54 year old from South Haven.

Shaw was not injured and her 63 year old passenger, Ronald Shaw, was taken to Gratiot Community Hospital with complaint of injuries. Shaw and her passenger were both seat belted and several airbags were deployed in her vehicle. Teegardin was also taken to Gratiot Community Hospital where he later died. Teegardin was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

At this time there are no other known contributing factors to the crash and the incident remains under investigation.

The Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services, Richland Township Fire, and Home Township Fire assisted at the scene.
