South Main Street Incident and Arrest
On 5-27-15 @ 8:21PM, members of the Woodstown Police department responded to an altercation at 369 South Main Street, Woodstown, N.J. Investigation revealed that two adult males were involved in struggle in which a cutting object was utilized as a weapon. Injured was Richard Hawthorne, 62 Beachurst Dr., N. Cape May, NJ - 47/M. Hawthorne was stabbed numerous times and was transported to Christiana Hospital. He was treated and admitted for wounds to his abdomen, chest and neck. Hawthorne is stable condition and remains hospitalized.
Shortly after the assault, Edward Carter, 17C West Grant Street, Woodstown, NJ – 35/M was arrested at his residence. Carter's charges consist of criminal attempt – murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Carter was lodged in the Salem County Jail in default of $75,000 cash bail, which was set by Judge John Casarow, Jr.
Members of the Salem County Prosecutor’s Office and members of the NJSP Woodstown Barracks assisted the Woodstown Police Department. The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information pertaining this incident is encouraged to contact the Woodstown Police Department.
