GCSO Sheriff Jim Arnott warns citizens of phone scam
The Greene County Sheriff's Office has recently received reports from citizens stating they were contacted via phone by someone identifying themselves as an employee or Deputy from the Sheriff's Office. The caller advises you have a warrant and instructs you to purchase a prepaid credit card in the amount of your "bond" or to pay via PayPal to avoid being arrested. The GCSO does not accept payments over the phone or through PayPal for any transaction.
"We don't want anyone to be duped in a moment of vulnerability or panic," states Sheriff Jim Arnott. "Please do not provide any credit card, personal or security information over the phone."
To check to see if there has been a warrant issued for someone's arrest, they can check on our website (www.greenecountymosheriff.org), call the GCSO's Records Division at 417-829-6235 or stop by the Greene County Jail.
