#LASD Lomita Station Deputies Save Despondent Man from Coastal Cliffs, Rancho Palos Verdes
On Tuesday, June 2, 2015, Lomita Sheriff’s Station received a call from a despondent man. The Sheriff’s dispatcher kept the caller on the line while attempting to establish his location. The experienced dispatcher was able to identify a general area where the suspect was calling from, using departmental technological resources. Shortly after the phone call was lost, Lomita Station deputies responded to the area of the Point Vicente Lighthouse, 31501 Palos Verdes Drive, Rancho Palos Verdes.
A short time later, deputies located the distraught man beyond the protective fence line along the rugged cliffs near the Lighthouse. The deputies, facing a very tense situation were able to talk the distraught man from the cliffs and brought him to a safe location. He was later transported to a local hospital.
Lomita Sheriff’s Station polices the Cities of Lomita, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, and Rolling Hills Estates, as well as the unincorporated communities of Academy Hill, La Rambla, Palos Verdes Peninsula, and Westfield.
