Los Angeles- On Sunday, June 7, 2015, at approximately 2025 hours, a fatal hit and run traffic collision occurred at the intersection of Slauson Avenue and San Pedro Place in Newton Area.

The collision occurred when Manuel Enrique Mendoza-Hernandez, 22 years old and a resident of Los Angeles, was riding his bicycle westbound along the south sidewalk of Slauson Avenue just east of San Pedro Place.  Mendoza-Hernandez rode his bicycle off the sidewalk and into the path of a vehicle making a right turn from San Pedro Place onto Slauson Avenue.  Mendoza-Hernandez was knocked to the pavement and then run over by the vehicle.

Mendoza-Hernandez was pronounced dead at scene by paramedics from the Los Angeles City Fire Department.  The driver of the vehicle fled the scene eastbound on Slauson Avenue in violation of 20001(A) VC, Hit and Run.

There were no witnesses to the collision. Evidence recovered at the scene revealed that the hit and run vehicle may possibly be a Toyota Corolla, unknown year or color.
