Prepare for the upcoming Independence Day Holiday with a safety message from Montclair Police and Fire
Fireworks on Fourth of July are an American past-time, but did you know that there are more than twice as many fires reported on that day, than on any other day of the year in the United States? Two out of every five of these fires are caused by fireworks. The good news is that you can enjoy your holiday and the fireworks with just a few simple safety tips:
• Leave fireworks to the professionals. Do not use consumer (Safe & Sane) fireworks.
• The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public display conducted by trained professionals.
FACTS:
• Each 4th of July, thousands of people, most often children and teens, are injured while using Safe & Sane fireworks.
• The risk of fireworks injuries is highest for young people ages 15-24, followed by children under 10.
• The tip of a sparkler burns at a temperature of more than 1,200°F, which is hot enough to cause 3rd-degree burns.
ALL FIREWORKS including Safe & Sane are ILLEGAL in Montclair.
An Administrative Citation for $1,000 will be issued to violators.
