Investigators report that around 4:02 P.M., Orange County dispatch received a 911 call of a trash truck that had crashed into a barn. The driver, Marty A. Wells, 42, Greensburg, was southbound on State Road 337 when the 2004 International trash truck he was driving left the east side of the roadway. The truck continued 462 feet before crashing into a barn at 2727 North State Road 337, Orleans. Wells was trapped inside the vehicle had had to be extricated. Smith was transported by Air Methods Helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital for injuries to his face and extremities. The roadway was wet due to the rain, and troopers believe excessive speed for the road conditions did factor into the crash.
