Community

Monday starts a new week, for you & daytime burglars. Info on Fri's break-ins, & how to stay safe

First, let me thank you for the partnership each of you have with the FPD. Strong community-police relationships are our biggest weapons against crime, which is why I am writing tonight. We need your help.

On Friday morning, after many residents in the Chestnut Bend neighborhood went to work, two despicable felons broke into three homes – in broad daylight. They approached a fourth, but were run off by a neighbor who cared enough to ask them what they were doing, essentially scaring them away. Brentwood Police are investigating a similar daytime burglary that occurred in the Fountainhead Subdivision, off of Franklin Road on Thursday.

Daytime burglars normally knock and ring the doorbell, repeatedly, before breaking in. They do so in hopes that they will avoid encountering anyone inside after breaking in. They typically strike during daylight, Monday through Friday, when many people are at work.

Being that tomorrow is Monday, these suspects have a brand new week of opportunity. Our officers will be ever-present in your neighborhoods, in both marked and unmarked squad cars. Here is how you can help us:

1. If you have an alarm system, arm it while you’re away.

2. If you are home and hear a knock at the door, answer out from behind closed doors to let them know someone is home. Most daytime burglars will simply move on to another home once they know someone is inside.

3. Working parents who may leave out-of-school children home alone should evaluate whether or not their children are mature enough to handle an unexpected and potentially dangerous intruder.

4. If you stay at home during the day, be mindful of what is happening on your street and in your neighbors’ back yards. If you see something, anything at all, that you feel may be suspicious – call us at (615) 794-2513.

Fighting crime is a partnership, between you and us. Working together, we can keep Franklin the safe place we all love calling home.
