Montclair Officers disarm suicidal subject armed with a knife with the use of a bean bag munition.

On Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at 7:20 p.m., Montclair Police Officers were called to the 10000 block of Bel Air Avenue, reference a suicidal subject armed with a knife. Family members were reporting that the subject was cutting himself inside the home and threatening to kill himself.

When officers arrived they located the suicidal subject standing behind the security screen of the front door holding the knife. Officers gave commands to drop the knife and exit the residence. As the subject opened the screen door and exited, officers could see several self-inflicted knife wounds to his arms.

The suicidal subject refused to drop the knife as he exited the residence. A Less-Lethal munition (bean bag) was deployed, striking the subject in his forearm, causing him to drop the knife. Officers were able to detain the suicidal subject without further incident.

The subject was immediately treated on scene for his injuries and transported to a local hospital for further treatment. He was later taken to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Department of Behavioral Health for evaluation.
